hyperallergic
Hyperallergic is the world’s premier independent arts publication. As their media producer, I created short form video content that consistently garnered between thousands and millions of views across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram and produced The Hyperallergic Podcast podcast hosted by Editor at Large Hrag Vartanian while also writing dozens of articles on culture, politics, and art history.
Through the content I made at Hyperallergic, I was able to bring their journalism to life and connect with millions of new readers through a highly personable and accessible format that anyone could relate to and understand. Reaching those audiences, who often felt largely excluded from discussions about art, was fundamental to the brand for a publication that is often highly critical of the established institutional powers in the art world. Occasionally, I could rack up views through hopping on popular trends. But, over time, I found that what really sparked people’s interest was highly engaging, educational videos, where anyone could learn something new and be inspired to find out more.
the hyperallergic podcast
Beginning in March of 2024, I produced The Hyperallergic Podcast from end to end: I invited and coordinated guests, edited audio and mixed in music and sound effects from beginning to end, wrote promotional material, published, and publicized every episode. I also introduced the practice of filming episodes and editing each one into a YouTube video, which brought in tens of thousands of new listeners.
short form video content
When they came across my art history videos on my personal account on Instagram and TikTok, Hyperallergic asked me to become the face of their video content. Over the course of three years, I developed a tightly-edited brand of high-quality educational video content on topics ranging from art conservation to political protests. When we added YouTube to the mix, these videos grew Hyperallergic’s channel from less than 400 subscribers to over 30k subscribers in a matter of months.
writing
Since 2012, I’ve written dozens of exhibition reviews, news articles, and opinion pieces for Hyperallergic, some of which were among the most popular articles of the year they were published.
